'That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.'
-Jhumpa Lahiri
Reading is one of the best constructive habits that anyone can cultivate to reap the benefit of a positive impact on almost every aspect of life. It has been rightly said that 'A child who reads will be an adult who thinks.' Reading books combats isolation, expands children’s horizons, stimulates their minds and lets their creativity blossom.
The ‘100 Days Reading Campaign’ was an initiative launched by the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy, which aimed to cover the learning needs of children.
To promote the campaign and to educate and impart knowledge about the need of reading to the students of classes Pre-School to VII, Gyan Mandir Public School initiated a fabulous drive that made a huge difference to their lives. Children carried out a fantastic array of activities such as story telling through puppets, enactment of their favourite book characters, show and tell about their favourite book etc. These fun activities showcased their inclusive interest in the task and also symbolized the power of books.
This initiative developed the love for reading amongst the students. Flipping through the books, wallowing and plunging into different moods ........mystery, adventurous or funny, left the children over the moon feeling a sense of pride and satisfaction .
These activities not only gave them a chance to speak the languages correctly but also induced confidence through self-expression of their thoughts.
